Earlier this season, Irwin County (Ga.) three-star athlete DJ Lundy was just hoping to see the field. Now, he’s getting closer to seeing where he’ll do so collegiately.

Lundy is near full health after recovering from a torn meniscus earlier this year. When regaining his form in September, he told that he privately had a favorites list. Now he’s announced it, in the form of a top five.

Last week, Lundy announced a final five of Virginia Tech, South Carolina, West Virginia, Vanderbilt and Tennessee. He has two official visits set that could make the final choice even more clear.

Lundy,’s No. 47 running back and No. 76 player in Georgia for 2021, said he’ll officially visit Virginia Tech Dec. 13-15. Previously, he’d admitted that the Hokies were his favorite.

“I talk to the coaches almost every day,” Lundy said. “It’s just been a strong relationship with the coaches. We’re just locked in. I feel like they started out rough, but they’re back on the right track. They’ve had a lot of wins. They say it’s going to be something special, and I just want to be a part of it.”

The biggest bond has come with special teams coordinator James Shibest, Lundy’s primary recruiter.

“It’s just a family vibe with him,” Lundy said. “We talk about how much they take care of the players, the fans, all that stuff there.”
