Virginia Tech Plays Complete Game In Win Over Wake Forest

Virginia Tech played its most complete football of the year in a 36-17 victory over Wake Forest on Saturday, and I continue to be amazed at the turnaround we’ve seen since that awful Friday night against the Duke Blue Devils.

Midseason turnarounds aren’t unique around these parts.  Tech started out 0-2 in 1995, but ran off 10 straight wins and beat Texas in the Sugar Bowl.  Again, they started 0-2 in 2010, but went on to win the ACC.  But those were different.  In those seasons, I think we knew the Hokies were better than they were playing to start the season.  Their “slumps” lasted just two games, and nobody pasted them.  This year the team looked rough for a full four games, and the Blue Devils hammered them.  They didn’t have the look of a good football team at all.

Yet here we are.  Tech is 4-1 since that Duke game, with their one loss coming in the final minute on the road against a ranked Notre Dame team.  This team has done what young teams should do…it has steadily gotten better.  There are a whole bunch of us who are eating some serious crow right now after what we said after the Duke game, and it tastes really good.

Let’s take a look at the talking points from the Wake Forest game.
