Defensive End, Class of 2021
Sumter High School, Sumter, SC
It’s still early in the process, and Sumter (SC) 2021 defensive end Justus Boone is quick to say as much. However, Boone is putting his recruitment aside completely.
Virginia Tech became the latest to offer Boone a scholarship, on Wednesday. The Hokies join South Carolina, West Virginia, Virginia and Charlotte as those schools that have done so to this point. Boone is taking a few visits and looking at his current options, but he also insists that it’s far too soon to even talk about favorites.
“It’s like still in the beginning, because I’m thinking about where I want to be and where I can see myself,” Boone said. “I haven’t fully come down to saying, I want to go here. I’m still waiting it out, seeing what I get. I know some schools, when they see you commit, they stop coming. I just want to see what all comes in, make my decision before my senior year starts or maybe during. Maybe even in the spring.”
Virginia Tech isn’t new in the hunt for Boone. He camped in Blacksburg this summer and has stayed in steady contact since then.
“I’ve been talking to them over the summer and spring,” Boone said. “I’ve been texting a little bit with Coach (James) Shibest. I’ve also been getting some mail and stuff from them. First, I like the system. They’re just very intrigued and making sure players learn. They’re hype about winning and stuff like that.”
Shibest has been Boone’s primary recruiter, and their relationship has been a big reason for Boone’s continued interest.
