Like his demeanor and personality, Lugoff Elgin (SC) three-star offensive lineman Parker Clements has been mostly easy going in his recruitment. He’s up to 15 offers, and he even took a visit just after the end of the previous dead period.

Clements said he knows what he wants to find in the school he chooses, and while he senses some urgency heading into his senior season, he isn’t rushing his choice.

“Education, what I’m going to get, that’ll go way farther than football,” he said. “Football has to end one day, so it has to be my 40-year decision. It has to be a fit, education and football-wise. It’d be great to play at a high level, but education is first. That’s how I’ve always looked at it.”

Clements,’s No. 18 player in South Carolina for 2020, added recent offers from UCONN and Kansas State, but he’s arguably gotten to know Virginia Tech the best in recent months. Clements camped with the Hokies on June 9 and was offered afterward. He was back on campus July 27 for their Blacksburg Bash barbecue.

“The second time was a lot more laid back,” Clements said. “We played some games, ate and hung out a lot more. I got to see a little more, got another tour, saw the facilities again. It was just more laid back, and I got to socialize with recruits and coaches.”

The coach Clements said he’s gotten to know best is assistant coach Vance Vice, and they’ve found some common ground from their talks.
