Virginia Tech Football Scouting Report: Christian Darrisaw

I’m ashamed to say I’ve adopted a bad habit of overlooking outstanding offensive line play. I’ve got my excuses, sure, but it’s something I’m going work on. And today, I’m starting with Christian Darrisaw (LT, #77.) (And we’ll highlight a few teammates, too.)

To commemorate his performance, we’ve got a fistful of fun clips to watch. He had a great game against the Hoos, and he probably made true freshman Aaron Faumui question his decision to take up collegiate football. Speaking of Faumui, he makes a special appearance here:

Darrisaw is at the point of attack on this Power run by McClease. Darrisaw’s job is to block down on Faumui and open the gap. He not only blocks down, but gets the defensive end moved out all the way to the first-down line. On another Power run to his side, Darrisaw got into the second level:

He peels off the double-team and not only gets ILB Zane Zandier moving backwards, but he actually shoves him (it’s almost a carry) from right-to-left so the linebacker doesn’t have a chance at making at tackle (and cleans up a tentative safety in the process.) I’ve talked before about how important it is for linebackers to attack the correct side of a blocker; Zandier doesn’t, and he gets schooled. I honestly thought this was some poor safety getting abused until I looked closer.
