No matter the school, the first offer usually tends to mean more than the others. For Lowndes (Ga.) 2021 safety TJ Quinn, it’s no different, but it’s also just the beginning.

A week ago, Virginia Tech became the first to offer Quinn after he participated in the Hokies’ satellite camp at Jacksonville University. Others, such as Virginia and Michigan State, have expressed interest, and he has his eye particularly on one program. But Quinn’s also ready to look more into that first offer, as well as see potential options he could have.

“I’m looking at the relationship with the coaches, how they act towards you,” he said. “Then, the environment. I want to see if they want you no matter who you are, or if they just want you for your talent.”

Quinn has yet to see Blacksburg. From the satellite camp, however, he said he got a glimpse of how the program and staff is.

“When I went to the camp, all the coaches came up and greeted me,” Quinn said. “I know they’re real friendly. If they want you, they’re going to do whatever they can to get you up there. Coach (James) Shibest talks to me a lot. He talks to me on Twitter, sends me stuff about what they’re doing up there, so I know they’ve got good things going on.”

Shibest has been Quinn’s primary contact thus far. Quinn said they first got in contact last summer and have had good vibes between them since.

“He’s a good coach and everything he tells you, he says he’s going to live up to,” Quinn said. “He’s not going to put you down. It means a lot that they believe in me enough to be first. They believed in me to offer.”

Quinn said he plans to make his first trip to Virginia Tech on July 26 for the Hokies’ Blacksburg Bash barbecue for recruits. He hopes that gives him an even better idea of what to expect there.

“I want to see the facilities, the weight room and stuff, then the football field,” Quinn said. “I just want to see the environment, just the vibes that the place gives off.”

Quinn said he has no other visits planned. He did see Florida last week, and camped a few weeks before that at Georgia Tech. But
