It took some time, but the speed has caught more attention. It has First Coast (FL) three-star wide receiver Tyree Saunders contemplating how and where to best use it.
In April, Saunders committed to South Florida. Since then, however, he’s accumulated 14 more offers, including Kansas State, Iowa State and most recently, Virginia Tech. Saunders is still on board with the Bulls, but he’s also still taking visits and giving other schools a serious look.
“I’m definitely committed there,” Saunders said of South Florida. “It’s all good, still good. I’m in touch with the coaching staff. We talk a good minute, a lot. I just need to get back up there. I haven’t been in a minute. I just have to get there, after the dead period. I’m probably trying to get there in July. If not, then it’ll be for a game.”
The Hokies offered Saunders after he competed in one of their satellite camps at Jacksonville University. He said he’d already been in contact with the staff and went with the intent of seeing if an offer was possible.
“Before the camp, coach was like, ‘can you make it?’” Saunders said. “I took a chance, because I knew I could do my thing. I ran a 4.4 and a week later, he said I had the offer. They had a staff meeting and I called him and he told me the news.”
Assistant coach Charley Wiles made the offer, but Saunders said he’s also spoken by phone recently with wide receivers coach Jafar Williams, too.
