Not that the smaller schools aren’t still options, but initially Lugoff Elgin (SC) three-star offensive tackle Parker Clements set his sights a bit low with his recruitment. There were visits to Coastal Carolina, Wofford, Furman and Georgia State. Offers came from each of those schools.
Then, on May 11, Clements visited Louisville and left with a scholarship offer. That was the first from a Power Five school. On June 9 Clements was at Virginia Tech, and again left with an offer.
It’s safe to say that Clements’ profile has taken a sharp tick upward. He has another visit coming this weekend that could also shed some more light on his recruitment. But Rivals.com’s No. 20 player in South Carolina also has no plans for any decision, which could mean he could become an even more wanted man.
“It’s definitely something you look at…before I started getting attention, I never looked at it as a possibility,” Clements said. “My coaches have helped me out and let me see it’s a possibility.
“Just the right school, geographically speaking I like it being not so hot. At first, I knew I didn’t want to go far, at least a little close to home. But being at Kentucky, Louisville, I really liked that. I like the scenery of Kentucky and Virginia, a little further north. It’s changed for me. Definitely academics, I take pride in those. That’s big for me. But also, a lot of fan support, a packed crowd would be awesome.”
