Yes, technically, Walkertown (NC) four-star guard Jalen Cone had narrowed his choices to a top six. But he had in most ways already made his mind up before he announced his commitment Thursday to Virginia Tech.

It came down to a few factors for Cone, No. 77 in the final Rivals150 for the 2019 class and No. 100 in the 247Sports composite rankings. For now, Cone remains technically just ‘committed’ to the Hokies. He hasn’t signed a letter of intent and at this point, he might not. But he insists he’s fully on board with his college choice and will arrive in Blacksburg in August, after he reclassified from the 2020 class.

“It’s just a family atmosphere,” Cone said. “I got along good with the current coaches and players really well. They needed me. And they needed me to come in and get major minutes.”
