It’s a good bet to say that Lord Botetourt (Va.) safety Evan Eller will play football at the college level. Figuring out exactly where, though, is still up in the air.
Eller claims 10 offers, including Navy, Army, Air Force, UMass, Harvard and Penn. In trying to narrow down his options, Eller has been busy with numerous visits. More are coming, including today, but he’s still sorting through what aspects are most important.
“I just want good academics, for sure,” Eller said. “Then, just a close-knit team, a brotherhood type of feel. I don’t pay attention to scheme that much. That’s never been a big factor. I’m thinking exercise science and getting into physical therapy wherever I go.”
Over the past couple of months, Eller has visited West Virginia, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, Navy, Liberty, James Madison, Wofford and Furman. Each gave him a feel for what he likes and doesn’t, as well as how coaches project him.
“Usually, I pay attention to how the coaches treat me, how much they care about me and how they care about their players,” Eller said. “That’s definitely a big factor. Some schools showed more interest than others, but meeting different coaches was good to see the different types of coaching styles. I like an energetic coach who holds you accountable, gets on you for doing something wrong, makes sure you get better and corrects what you’re doing wrong.”
Eller was on hand in February for one of the Hokies’ junior days. He said he’s lost count of the multitude of visits he’s made to Blacksburg over the past few years.
