It’s still early. Stonewall Jackson (Va.) 2021 defensive tackle Tyleik Williams will probably be the first to tell you that with regards to his recruitment.

Still, Williams has garnered some impressive early interest, including offers from Virginia Tech, Penn State and Virginia. That has resulted in him at least doing some digging. There are a few factors Williams is already taking into account, and though he doesn’t have any favorites, one school could be an early front-runner.

Williams’ size, at 6-foot-3 and 300 pounds, has certainly caught some early attention.

“My speed and my strength and moves, that’s what I’m working on now,” he said. “By next year, I should be up there if I pace myself with workouts. I think I’m physical and I move. The Syracuse coach came to see me, and he thought I was 230 by my film. He thought I was a skinny dude, but he liked the speed for my size.”

Williams has already gotten three in-person looks at the Hokies. That includes a trip in his eighth-grade year, and their junior day on Feb. 9. Virginia Tech offered him a scholarship March 7.

“We went and toured the whole campus on a bus, saw everything like the Hokie stone, how everything is made with it,” he said. “We saw the locker rooms, tried on the helmets and jerseys. I actually liked it a lot. Then, the weight room, they showed the transformations of peoples’ bodies over two years. Them working with Tim (Settle), how they changed him and how he’s in the NFL, they could do the same thing with me.”

New assistant coach Justin Hamilton has been Williams’ primary contact. So far, Williams said he’s been impressed with what he’s heard.

“He’s talked to me the most and he’s just cool, real cool,” Williams said. “Just how his personality is, he’s just one of those dudes who’s easy to talk to. I don’t know, it’s just his personality.”

Williams said he plans to get another look at the Hokies on March 30, for another Elite Junior Day.

“I just want to experience it again,” he said. “I’m hoping they’ll show me more than the last time. I mean, they showed me everything, but I don’t know. Maybe what the rooms look like, just the dorms. I’d like to see those.”
