Dorman (SC) three-star wide receiver Jacoby Pinckney was among those caught off guard when he heard the news. Last month, wide receivers coach Holmon Wiggins left Virginia Tech for the same position at Alabama.           

Still, it didn’t make Pinckney second-guess his decision. In June he committed to the Hokies, and in December he signed his letter of intent with them. Wiggins factored into Pinckney’s original decision, but he was far from the only reason. Pinckney liked the program, the school, the relationships he’d built, and now he’s getting himself ready for his freshman season.           

“I talked to (Wiggins) after,” he said. “But it was definitely surprising. I’m happy for him. He always had my respect. But I didn’t choose Virginia Tech necessarily because of a coach. I made sure I liked the school, the program, I liked the people I’m going to be around for three or four years.”
