DaShawn Crawford is a junior college defensive tackle who is expected to contribute right away for the Hokies.  He enrolled at Tech in January and is currently going through the offseason strength and conditioning program.  Size was considered to be an issue with Crawford, which explains his lack of Power 5 offers, but he brings many attributes to the table that have historically been consistent with good defensive tackle play in Bud Foster’s system.

Crawford was only 244 pounds as a senior in high school, which explains why he was not recruited at that time despite racking up 243 tackles and 16 sacks during his career.  He was the Mississippi 2A Defensive Player of the Year as a senior, but with his size he had no choice but to go the JUCO route.
