The past few weeks, as well as the weeks to come, are for Mauldin (SC) 2020 three-star defensive back Andru Phillips to get a feel for a few schools he’s drawn to. Three visits are complete, and three are still upcoming.           

Phillips,’s No. 15 player in South Carolina for 2020, has a few schools in mind that will make the next cut in his recruitment.  Though he’s not there yet, he’ll likely have a commitment that closely follows suit. Phillips claims offers from Virginia Tech, Kentucky, West Virginia, Wake Forest, Appalachian State, Georgia Southern, Kent State, Coastal Carolina and East Carolina.           

The main thing I look for is academics, how good the graduation rate is and all that,” Phillips said. “That’s important because football doesn’t last forever. Then, it’s having that home feel. I don’t want to go somewhere I’m not comfortable. If I get love from the fans, the coaches, everyone on the team. I want just a good atmosphere. I just look for the best family feel.”           

On Saturday, Phillips took part in Virginia Tech’s latest junior day. The visit marked his first trip to Blacksburg.
