On Dec. 4, Ohio State coach Urban Meyer announced his plan to retire after the Buckeyes’ game at the Rose Bowl on New Year’s Day. Up to that point, Spring Valley (WV) four-star offensive tackle Doug Nester had already contemplated if he’d made the right decision when he committed to Ohio State in August. At this point, he decided he definitely needed to re-evaluate his future.

Nester has not fully strayed from his Buckeyes commitment, but he didn’t sign his letter of intent last month, and has now opened the door for three contenders: Virginia Tech, Penn State and Georgia. He’ll be visiting all three officially this month, which will help determine his next landing spot.

“I feel like I’m still committed, as of right now,” Nester said. “I’m really just trying to take things, let everything sink in, to see if I’m making the right decision. I was thinking a little of it before Coach Meyer (retirement announcement). But the thing with Coach Meyer, [it] told me to really slow down.”
