Recruiting has more or less taken a back seat for Norview (Va.) 2021 athlete MarQeese Dietz. But with his sophomore season wrapped up, he wanted to give one school a bit more attention.
Virginia Tech is the lone offer currently for Dietz, though that might not stay that way for long. Florida State, Virginia and Temple have all been in contact. Now that the offseason has arrived, Dietz said he plans to look a bit more into his recruitment.
“I just want to have good coaches,” he said. “I want someone who will be on top of everything, every little mistake correcting me. Also, I look at the offenses and defenses I’d get in, the system. I don’t want to say weather, because I’m not worried about weather, but I want where it gets cold and hot. I don’t want to be too far from home.”
Norview’s 2018 campaign came to a close Nov. 9 with a loss to Indian River (Va.) in the first round of the VHSL state playoffs. That gave Dietz the chance to see one of his early options this past weekend, and he chose to take in the Hokies’ game against Miami.
“The food, that was the first thing, it was definitely enjoyable,” Dietz said of what stood out. “Then, talking to Coach Zohn (Burden) before we walked on the sideline, we had a good talk. It was good seeing the receivers, how they warm up. Seeing Dax (Hollifield) warm up, it was just good vibes. Coach (Holmon) Wiggins is a good coach. It was just good and I enjoyed myself.”
Though Dietz said he’s gotten to know Wiggins, he’s established a tighter bond with Burden, his primary recruiter.
