Boston College Analysis: Virginia Tech Faces Physical Opponent

Virginia Tech Football

Boston College is putting together a good season with a veteran team. Before beating Miami last week, you could say they didn’t have a notable win on their schedule, but now it seems they do, and with A.J. Dillon back, they probably haven’t peaked yet.

Offense

Hokie fans will recognize HC Steve Addazio and OC Scot Loeffler’s offensive tendencies. The most important thing about the Addazio/Loeffler pairing is that both guys love the word “dude.” They also have a shared vision wherein the apex of football offense resembles a steamroller made out of huge, perpetually churning humans. Look for lots of big bodies on the field running power, counter, and road-grader versions of zone runs. Dillon (#2) stepped back into the starting lineup against Miami, and he looked great with 150 yards rushing on 32 carries and a 27-yard reception. Even coming off injury he was quick, powerful, and agile, and he displayed both patience and suddenness as they were needed.

ABOVE: Dillon was rusty on his first carry back from injury.
