Virginia Tech plays ODU this weekend. The Monarchs are excited, because the Hokies are a big in-state school and are ranked No. 10 in the country. However, it would be even more exciting if Old Dominion had managed to win one of their first three games.

Still, Tech’s players are excited about this one. It’s a chance to play in a different venue, and there will be a bunch of Hokie fans in the crowd. It should be entertaining.

I’ve got a few thoughts on Tech’s ranking, the possibility of an unbeaten vs. unbeaten matchup with Notre Dame, and whether or not this Saturday’s game will be beneficial to Virginia Tech’s recruiting efforts.

Embrace the Ranking

The Hokies are No. 10 in the Coaches Poll this week. This marks the first time since 2011 that Virginia Tech has been ranked in the top 10. Do I think they are actually the tenth best team in the country? I lean towards “no.” But it’s so early that I’m not sure who else I’d put there either. I do know that Notre Dame is ranked No. 8, and they barely managed to beat Ball State and Vanderbilt at home, and they haven’t scored more than 24 points all season. So should the Irish be ranked No. 8? If Notre Dame and Tech shouldn’t be ranked No. 8 and No. 10, then who should? Almost everybody has warts.

I think what you can say
