1) Can you investigate new FSU Coach Willie Taggert’s 1st game results at previous spots? What I want to know is how well his teams do in their first game as he has had to install a new system from previous coaches. It’s easy to say “well this is the first time his team will be running his system in a game situation so they will struggle” but what if his other game #1 were gangbusters? Can you deduce anything from the results? – All The Way

Chris Coleman: Good question. I don’t see a situation where he has faced any opponent as good as Virginia Tech right out of the gate before. Of course, he’s only spent one season as the head coach of a Power 5 school. That was last year at Oregon, and his offense was dominant early in the season. It wasn’t until October that his offense got bogged down. They scored 10, 7 and 14 points in three consecutive games against Washington State, Stanford and UCLA. Obviously that’s a big step up in talent level from the opponents they faced in September.

By the end of his tenure at South Florida (which ran from 2013-2016), Taggart’s teams were able to out-talent just about everybody on their schedule. In September of 2016, his teams scored 40+ points in every game but one. That was against Florida State, and they even dropped 35 on the ‘Noles.

However, the start to the 2015 season was interesting. After scoring 51 on Florida A&M, South Florida
