The offer from Virginia Tech came in May. This weekend, however, marked the first time Baldwin (Fla.) 2020 wide receiver Xavier McGriff made the trek to southwest Virginia.           

McGriff was on hand Sunday for the Hokies’ annual Blacksburg Bash barbecue. It was one of five other stops he’s made this summer, and while McGriff likely is far away from a decision, it made a big enough impression that he’s already set a return visit with Virginia Tech.           

“In-person, it was a pretty good campus, up in the mountains,” McGriff said. “It was beautiful up there. The college campus was snice. Everything had the Hokie stone, which was surprising. We did a lot of activities getting to know each other. We got a tour guide, with how everything on campus ran and the academic side.”
