1) Of our current 2019 verbals, who do you like? – HokieR
Chris Coleman: Well, I like all of them. I certainly don’t dislike any of them. A coaching staff wouldn’t take a commitment from a player this early in the process if they didn’t like him. That said, I’ll pick a couple that stand out to me above the others, of the six current verbal commitments.
The first would be wide receiver Elijah Bowick of Charlotte. Bowick has recently picked up offers from Georgia and Notre Dame during the evaluation period, to go along with previous offers from schools such as Tennessee, NC State, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Louisville and South Carolina. In my book, Bowick is knocking on the door of 4-star status, and there’s a definite chance that I might put him there before the summer is over.
Bowick was listed at 6-1, 187 last year. He’ll be in the 200 pound range by the time he gets to Virginia Tech. I normally don’t try to compare recruits with past players, because in many cases I don’t believe there is a clear comparison. However, I will say that Bowick reminds me of former Tech receiver Josh Morgan. They look to be about the same height, with similar athletic ability. A natural receiver who catches the ball with his hands, Bowick has the potential to help the Hokies very early in his career.
