Athlete, Class of 2020
Buford High School, Buford, GA
The month of May has come in a flurry for Buford (Ga.) 2020 running back Elijah Turner. It started on the first day of the month, with an offer from Wake Forest. Just over two weeks later, that offer total now stands at six, after Louisville offered last Tuesday night.
Turner had already begun to consider what qualities he looked for in a school. And now, he has a few to compare, even though a decision is not in his mind right now.
“I just want a great school in general, a great academic school to continue my education throughout,” Turner said. “Football-wise, I want a school that’s a running back type of school, so I could play a lot. Those are the main things.”
Virginia Tech was the second school to offer Turner, on May 7. Assistant coach Vance Vice made the offer, but Turner already had a bit of knowledge of the Hokies from his childhood.
“I like V-Tech,” Turner said. “That’s probably one of my favorite schools right now. The coach talked to me and he’s a good guy. I like it because Michael Vick went there. He was one of my favorite players growing up. I’d love to go and play there.”
Turner said he’s spoken regularly with Vice, and Turner likes the relationship they have.
“He was telling me how Virginia Tech would be a great school because they’re one of the best to produce running backs,” Turner said. “He was just good to talk to. We talked about the season this year, how they were good. And, how he would love to have me as a running back.”
