Often, people say they want to make a difference. They want to help others.

Princess Anne (Va.) 2021 cornerback Tony Grimes felt the same way. Last Christmas, however, he acted on his emotions. Grimes, along with his family and a few friends, bought sleeping bags, gloves and hats for homeless people who lived near his own home, in the Virginia Beach area. He hopes to expand on that in the future.

On the field, Grimes has also impressed. He’s up to 10 offers, including from Virginia Tech, Virginia, Tennessee, Texas A&M and South Carolina. Visits came this spring, and more are upcoming this summer.

For Grimes, though, it’s about looking at the bigger picture. That includes helping others less fortunate than he is by starting what he hopes is a charity, called ‘Provisions For the Season.’

“I remember, when my parents are driving, and we see people who say they need help,” Grimes said. “I always thought, ‘I wish I could help, but I can’t.’ Me getting older, I have the ability to do it. Some people choose to do that, but so many others don’t have choice. You’re still human. You need to eat, you need a place to sleep.”
