Caleb Steward is the lowest rated Virginia Tech recruit of the 2018 recruiting class.  He only rushed for 805 yards as a senior, but did that while splitting time with two other Division I running back recruits at Ed White High School in Jacksonville, Fla. If a coach has three such prospects on the same team, he will give them equal carries.  Steward would have had at least twice the amount of yardage had he been the only back on the team.

Because Steward had fewer carries than most backs, there are fewer plays to put on his highlight tape and his film in general.  Justin Fuente loves to use the term “evaluation” when talking about recruiting, and this was very much and evaluation offer for the Hokies.  They took a close look at Steward in person and decided they liked him.  I’m guessing they saw him at their camp at Jacksonville University last June.  Steward visited Blacksburg shortly thereafter and made his commitment.

Here’s a look at his highlight tape…

Now let’s talk about some specifics
