
Last week, we looked at Tech’s very early target board for the offensive side of the ball. Today, we’ll look at the defensive side of the ball.
Disclaimer: All numerical estimates are merely guesses this point. There is a long way to go between now and the Signing Days for the 2019 class. Attrition and player development will play a role in how many players Tech will take at each spot. The numbers listed in this article shouldn’t be taken as gospel.
Defensive End

Here are the current defensive ends in the program (I’m assuming that Vinny Mihota moves to defensive tackle)…
Trevon Hill (r-Jr.)
Houshun Gaines (r-Jr.)
Emmanuel Belmar (r-So.)
TyJuan Garbutt (r-Fr.)
Zion DeBose (r-Fr.)
Nathan Proctor (r-Fr.)
Robert Porcher (r-Fr.)
Eli Adams (Fr.)
The Hokies have a lot of young defensive ends in the program, with no seniors. Porcher hasn’t made the move to defensive tackle officially, and apparently there is still some convincing to do where that is concerned. Assuming that move eventually does happen, there will still be three redshirt freshmen and a true freshman on the roster this year. We’ve heard good things about Garbutt and DeBose, and Adams has impressed in early workouts as well.
Because of all that youth, defensive end is not a huge need for the 2019 class. I
