He wasn’t there for every trip, but through most of four-star linebacker Dax Hollifield’s visits, his younger brother took part, asking questions, talking to other recruits and observing everything Dax did. Now, Shelby (NC) 2021 defensive end Jack Hollifield finds himself beginning his own recruiting process.

The younger Hollifield (6-2, 215) already has three offers, from Virginia Tech, North Carolina and NC State. The Hokies joined in Feb. 9, though their recruitment of him extends far beyond that, now that Dax has signed his letter of intent to Virginia Tech.

Jack, though, is just getting started. He’s getting a feel for his early options and leaning on his brother as he wades through the early stages of his college recruitment.

“It’s been great,” Jack said of the early process. “I got to see everything he’s going through. I wouldn’t make my decision so late because he was so stressed at the end. He didn’t know where he wanted to go. I got to see the decisions he made and the things he did.”

When looking at his three offers and others who come into the picture, Jack said he shares a similar feeling as his brother.

“I’m kind of like Dax, that if I want to go to a school, I want get on the field as early as possible,” Jack said. “I also want to be around a good coach and stuff like that. I want somewhere that feels like home too. When we go to Virginia Tech, it just feels like home. I love the atmosphere up there.”

Over the past couple of years, Jack has made multiple trips to Blacksburg with Dax. That includes a few games, like the Hokies’ 2017 victory over North Carolina.

“I love it,” Jack said. “They’re going to be young this year, but they have a lot of good talent. The games are just crazy. The game days are just awesome.”
