Shelby (NC) four-star linebacker Dax Hollifield was aware of what Virginia Tech defensive coordinator Bud Foster had previously done to show his excitement of landing a top-tier recruit. In August of 2012, Foster did four cartwheels upon receiving the commitment of Rivals100 lineman Wyatt Teller.

So, naturally, Hollifield jokingly asked Foster to do it again if he committed. True to his word, Foster did another cartwheel, despite a recent knee surgery.

“I told him I was worried he’d hurt it again and he’d retire on me,” Hollifield said.

But for Hollifield, No. 180 in the 2018 Rivals250, Foster’s trustworthy response solidified his decision. On Wednesday, Hollifield surprised many when he chose the Hokies over Clemson, Stanford and North Carolina to wrap up their 2018 recruiting class. Getting to that decision was anything but easy for him. Now, though, he’s ready to make his mark at Virginia Tech.
