Keshon Artis is the highest-rated player the Hokies signed out of the state of Virginia this season. As the starting middle linebacker for powerhouse Oscar Smith, he was a two-time first-team All-State linebacker who is currently projected to play the mike linebacker spot at Virginia Tech.
Artis is a good prospect who had offers from programs such as Tennessee, NC State, West Virginia and more. The Hokies won a bit of a drawn out recruiting battle for him, though he was considered to be a Tech lean the entire time. Zohn Burden was his lead recruiter, though Bud Foster and Justin Fuente also played a major role.
Virginia Tech has been steadily stockpiling linebackers over the last couple of recruiting classes, and as far as I’m concerned Artis has as much upside as any other linebacker they’ve signed. He’s a good fit for the mike position, though he’s also athletic enough that he could play backer as well if needed.
Artis certainly put up impressive senior season stats, finishing with 103 tackles, 39 tackles for loss, 15 sacks and six forced fumbles.
