An exciting gameday atmosphere is important to Class of 2019 offensive lineman Riley Simonds, but seeing campuses outside of gameday is just as important.

Simonds, a junior at Buford High School in Georgia, took in his first game at Virginia Tech on Nov. 18 for the Hokies’ win over Pittsburgh. It was one of a handful of games he’s taken this season. But as he plots his next move, Simonds said a trip this summer might have had the biggest impact. He made an impromptu stop in Blacksburg in June.

“I just toured the facilities a lot,” Simonds said. “I don’t think any coaches were really there. It was just a little trip, not really planned the first time. It was nice to see how it was when no fans were there, just the players. It was just so calm, but kind of lively. I remember it wasn’t very hot, but kind of cool and I liked that.”

Virginia Tech was the first school to offer Simonds (6-4, 290), a 3-star prospect according to Rivals and 247Sports, back in April. He’s up to 14 offers now, after Louisville offered on Monday.
