He has six offers, but those six aren’t necessarily recruiting him for the same position.

Potomac Falls (Va.) 2019 three-star athlete Dean Ferguson (6-foot-2, 210 pounds) has looks at both safety and outside linebacker. Ferguson is open to both, but certainly favors one. Still, he’s waiting on more options and taking his time overall in his recruitment. Ferguson has also taken one visit this season and is looking into more.

But more important than simply what position he’ll play, Ferguson,’s No. 17 player in Virginia for 2019, is looking at what situation would fit best.

“I’d rather play safety,” he said. “But it just depends on how I grow and develop. Getting the right fit is all that matters.”

Virginia Tech was the most recent program to offer, just over three weeks ago. Old Dominion, East Carolina, Maryland, Virginia and Rutgers have also offered.

“Obviously, I look at academics,” Ferguson said. “I’m looking at how the program is, how it develops, how the coaches interact with the team. Then, the atmosphere towards playing, their excitement towards playing and then just the atmosphere on campus.”

The lone visit Ferguson has made this season was last month to Blacksburg for the Hokies’ game against Clemson. He’d visited earlier in the year as well, but this time gave him a much different look.

“When I first got there, we ate and met with the coaches,” Ferguson said. “My recruiting coach is Coach (Brian) Mitchell and that’s who I talked to. He’s a nice guy.
