I’m not doing any play analysis this week. The broadcast crew did a good job of covering the major points, the athleticism on display from Clemson was pretty hard to miss, and I’m probably not going to have time to sit down and watch replays for a while (beyond my upcoming look at slow starts by the Hokie offense.) Instead, I’ll talk a little about some of the major post-game topics being discussed by the Hokie fan base.

Game Plan on Offense

Looking back at TSL’s roundtable discussion on how Tech could win this game, I think my macro response could’ve just been one phrase: Beamerball lite. “Lite” because I didn’t see any big returns for Tech on the table, and I thought the field-position battle would’ve been more about winning the red zones than the full length of the field. I sure didn’t see Tech winning a shootout, or even a game where both teams got in the high twenties. If Tech was going to win, I saw the defense needing to force takeaways, the offense hanging onto the ball, the running game looking a little like it did versus West Virginia, and the game turning into a nerve-wracking duel between two frazzled QBs. So, the opposite pretty much happened on all counts.
