Virginia Tech Commit Tre Turner Talks Season-Ending Injury, Reaffirms Pledge to Hokies

On Saturday, Northwest Guilford (NC) four-star wide receiver Tre Turner made another of his countless visits to Virginia Tech, for the Hokies’ win over Old Dominion. It was the same as it had ever been, but it was different.

Turner, a consensus 4-star recruit by Rivals and 247Sports, committed to Virginia Tech at the end of May. The trip last weekend wasn’t so much about recruiting as it was reassurance.

The night before, Sept. 22, Turner suffered a season-ending shoulder injury. He spoke with the Hokies’ staff Saturday about it, about his future. Even before that, though, Turner was plenty solid with his decision.

The injury happened during Northwest Guilford’s 47-3 loss at Reidsville (NC). Turner attempted to make a tackle and felt his shoulder pop out of place. That’s been a recurrence since his sophomore year and each time, he said he’s able to easily get it back in place. This time was different.
