Class of 2019 Cornerback Nyquee Hawkins Taking Approaches Into Account

Orange (NJ) 2019 four-star cornerback Nyquee Hawkins has heard the same sales pitches from the same coaches. Some of them have been helpful and have played a part in where he’s taken visits. It’s the way a few schools have talked to him, however, that have made them stand out in Hawkins’ mind.

Hawkins, No. 172 in the 2019 Rivals250, has over a dozen offers, including Virginia Tech, Michigan, Penn State and West Virginia. Many of them, though, have had similar messages.

Three weeks ago, a pair of schools gave Hawkins a different way to see how they viewed him. That came on Sept. 1, the first day of the open contact period for the 2019 class.

“Virginia Tech was first to hit me up,” Hawkins said. “Coach (Justin) Fuente and Coach (Brian) Mitchell hit me up. They just were talking with me. It did make a difference that they were first. When you’re a junior, you can see who is really interested and who just offered. That actually caught my eye.”
