Virginia Tech is 2-0 this season, following wins over West Virginia and Delaware. Class of 2019 linebacker Ben Skinner was in the stands to see both.
Skinner is still waiting for his first offer, but has been in steady contact with the Hokies, East Carolina and Old Dominion. Virginia Tech would likely vault up to the top of his list should they make an offer.
After making the short drive to FedExField for the Hokies’ season-opening win against the Mountaineers, Skinner made the trek Saturday to Blacksburg for their win over the Blue Hens. Skinner was last at Virginia Tech in November for its win over Virginia.
“The atmosphere is just great,” Skinner said. “Just being there, then they come out to ‘Enter Sandman,’ it gives me chills thinking about it. I got to go down on the field and see them warm up and they just seemed excited to play. I love Bud Foster and he just seems like he’s cool with everyone. But the atmosphere is crazy and I love to go to a game there.”
Skinner said he got to see parts of the post-game celebration, and he liked how head coach Justin Fuente handled the team.
“It was cool just to be around all the players,” Skinner said. “I didn’t get to go into the main locker room, but they just talked and Coach Fuente was just positive and upbeat. They just take it one game at a time, which I like that.”
The Hokies are one of the main offers that Skinner is hoping for.
“If they were to offer me, it would be one of my top choices,” he said. “It’s close to where my family could see me and it’s great in general. All the coaches I’ve met are really good, down to earth guys. Bud Foster is really cool and I just love the atmosphere.”
Foster has been the primary recruiter for Skinner, a junior at Riverbend High School in Fredericksburg, Va., and their relationship has been a positive one.
