For a few years now, Blacksburg (Va.) three-star running back Cole Beck has been to many Virginia Tech games. Lane Stadium sits within a few miles of his house and Beck grew up plenty familiar with the Hokies.
Especially over the past few years, Beck had hoped he would get the opportunity to play on Worsham Field. Since this spring, offers have steadily streamed in from elsewhere. On March 3, he received his first FBS offer, from UMASS. Over the next month, he added offers from Buffalo, East Carolina, Marshall, Bowling Green and Appalachian State.
On Aug. 5, his hometown school joined in.
Virginia Tech became offer No. 28 for Beck, who also has offers from schools like Louisville, North Carolina, Pittsburgh, Mississippi State, Virginia and Boston College. And though the Hokies are now firmly in the mix, they’re far from a certainty as Beck goes through his options.
“First, it’s going to come down to where I fit in best,” Beck said. “Then obviously, if I’m really wanted, do they need me or want me? Then, it’s how I feel about the coaches. I’m going to be around the running backs coach the most, so I need to like him. Then, the fit and whatever my family feels is best.”
Virginia Tech is certainly a big option for Beck. He admits that might have been the biggest offer he waited on.
