Football Season is Almost Here

Believe it or not, this is the final full week of the summer in which no football is being played in Blacksburg.  Next Tuesday, the Hokies will don their jerseys, helmets and shorts for the first time, and August practice will begin.  I, for one, am looking forward to it.

We used to begin our positional previews in the middle of July, but ever since we got a press pass, we’ve been pushing them back until the month of August so we can fill them out with quotes from interviews, updated pictures from Russian Hokie, etc.  That keeps us busy through the month of August and before you know it, that opening game is here.

As much as we talk recruiting around here, particularly in the offseason, I’m a little bit tired of it.  I don’t know how much more I can tell you about guys like Dax Hollifield, Keshon Artis, Kalon Gervin, etc.  They’ll either sign with the Hokies or they won’t.  We’ll continue to monitor and report on those important recruitments, but for now I’m turning my attention to something more important — the 2017 Virginia Tech Hokies.

The ACC Kickoff was held a couple of weeks back, but outside of Cam Phillips and his interesting attire, not much came of it.  The Hokies were picked to finish second in the ACC Coastal Division, which is what I was expecting.  Despite what Tech lost on the offensive side of the ball, being picked second shows a healthy amount of respect for what Justin Fuente did in his first season.  Last year, Tech won the Coastal Division despite being picked fourth by the media before the season began.
