It has been a busy and successful summer for Virginia Tech recruiting. The coaching and recruiting staffs have hauled in some of their biggest targets, and there aren’t many spots left on the 2018 boat. At present, Virginia Tech holds 17 commitments and is only recruiting a handful of prospects at this point in the process.

To put all of this in perspective, perhaps we should take a look at each position and grade Virginia Tech’s performance at recruiting that position.

Quarterback

Commitments — Quincy Patterson, DeJuan Ellis

Remaining Targets — None

Apart from an early-April scare with DeJuan Ellis, the Hokies have been finished at quarterback for quite some time. Tech has signed two solid quarterbacks over the last two years in Josh Jackson and Hendon Hooker, and the trend is continuing this year.

Quincy Patterson has drawn industry-wide praise this camp season. He was impressive enough to make the Elite 11 and to be invited to The Opening, where he continued to awe writers and analysts alike. His intangibles and physical tools have built him a very high ceiling, one that could easily be reached.
