MATTHEWS, NC – Lord Botetourt (VA) 2019 offensive lineman Jesse Hanson had a feeling it would happen this way. In early April, Hanson received his first offer, from Coastal Carolina. But earlier this month, the bigger offers came in.

First, Virginia jumped in, then Iowa State. Now, Hanson (6-4, 290) is waiting to see who will be next. In the meantime, as he explained this month at the Charlotte stop of Nike’s The Opening Regionals, he has a good idea of what he needs to do and what schools are looking for in order to be next to offer.

“For me, one thing I’m always trying to improve on is my quickness,” Hanson said. “I’m trying to show that I can move fast. Pass blocking, I know I can, but they don’t get to see it. That’s the two main things.”

Hanson last visited Virginia Tech on April 4. He’s made a few trips through the years, and each time said he was impressed with aspects he saw, like the Hokies’ indoor practice facility.

“I like Virginia Tech a lot,” Hanson said. “They’re definitely high up there. They’re close to home, so I like it a lot. I like the O-line coach, Coach (Vance) Vice. I like the way he teaches a lot.”

During Hanson’s last visit, Vice also told him what he’s looking for in order to extend an offer.

“Just basically come to camp, that’s the main thing they’re saying,” Hanson said. “I think they want to see my speed a little more and see my pass blocking. They all say they’re really impressed with my run game, because we’re a run offense.
