MATTHEWS, N.C. — It’s pretty difficult to receive a scholarship offer to play college football as a freshman in high school. Just a few players each year are able to do it. One of those? Gaberiel Fuster.
Fuster is a Class of 2020 linebacker from Bishop Sullivan High School in Virginia Beach, VA. Fuster stands at 6-feet and 215-pounds, and has garnered interest from multiple Power 5 programs. Among those schools is his only offer at this point — Virginia Tech.
Virginia Tech issued a scholarship offer to Fuster in November 2016, and area recruiter Zohn Burden has worked since then to develop a relationship.
“It’s very good,” Fuster said. “He’s seen me at a lot of camps, and sometimes he’ll come and visit Bishop. He saw me work out one day in the weight room at Bishop, and Coach [Chris] Scott gave me the call to say they were offering me.”
Fuster said that he made it to Blacksburg to watch the Hokies’ win over Virginia to end the 2016 regular season, and that he enjoyed the trip.
“I like the atmosphere there,” Fuster said. “I liked that a lot. The fans, it was great.”
