MATTHEWS, N.C. — Since the beginning of his recruitment, Virginia Tech has made Dax Hollifield a priority. It’s reasonable to say he’s the top target on their board, especially at linebacker.

The Class of 2018 recruit is a 4-star prospect, according to Rivals, and has quite the laundry list of schools recruiting him at the moment. For now, three schools have stood out the most — North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia Tech. South Carolina was one of the schools Hollifield visited this spring, and it’s clear the Gamecocks have made an impression.

“They just want to make it like family,” Hollifield said. “They’re not really recruiting anymore. They’re done recruiting I guess. It shows they’re in it not just to get you because you’re athletic, but because you’re a good person.”

Running Backs Coach Bobby Bentley and Linebackers Coach Coleman Hutzler have been Hollifield’s primary recruiters from South Carolina, and the coaches have developed a good relationship with his whole family.

“We’ve made a really good relationship,” Hollifield said. “For sure, my dad has. They text me every day.”
