NC State Commit Considering Virginia Tech, Others

It’s been well over a year since Appomattox (VA) three-star athlete DeVon Graves committed to NC State; April 9 of last year to be specific. But it’s not clear if that pledge will continue until he graduates in December.

Graves,’s No. 26 athlete and No. 9 player in Virginia, has maintained that his commitment remains intact. But he also acknowledged that he’s not done looking at other options.

This spring, Graves took in a few visits. That included the Wolfpack, as well as his other two offers, Virginia Tech and Virginia. Each helped put his current commitment in perspective.

“Right now, I feel like NC State is the best family atmosphere,” Graves said. “But I haven’t explored everything. So I’m kind of open about it, talking to other schools and everything like that. I respect them and everything, but I’m still looking.”

Graves most recently was at Virginia Tech, on April 15, to check out one of the Hokies’ spring practices.

“It’s something else down there,” Graves said. “It’s a different experience because everything is in Hokie stone and everyone has so much pride about Virginia Tech football. Their facility is brand new and it’s crazy. I just like Virginia Tech.”

Graves said the trip was his third to Blacksburg. He also visited for the Hokies’ game against Georgia Tech last fall. Each visit allowed Graves to gather more information.
