CLIFTON, Va. — In case there was any doubt about who Cam Goode’s favorite school is at the moment, he likely ended that doubt at The Opening regional last weekend.
Prior to workouts, Goode was walking around with the usual stuff — bookbag, a drink, cleats, etc. He was also wearing a Virginia Tech visor.
The 3-star defensive tackle from St. John’s College in Washington, D.C. took an unofficial visit to Virginia Tech on April 1, and ever since then it seems like the Hokies are the team to beat.
“That visit was fun,” Goode said. “I spent a lot of time with the academic adviser, and I also spent a lot of time with (Charley Wiles). Bud Foster as well. It was a very fun experience. We talked a lot of football, a lot of academics.”
Wiles has been Goode’s primary recruiter so far, and it seems like the two have developed a good relationship.
“We talk once a week, twice a week,” Goode said. “He always checks in to see how I’m doing. He’s always pressuring me to commit. He’s always like, ‘Come on Cam, we need you!’ I feel wanted.”
Goode said he’s also visited Georgia and North Carolina this spring, and is still considering Pittsburgh as well. Goode has had to develop a new relationship there, since Pitt dismissed Defensive Line Coach Tom Sims. Charlie Partridge was hired on Feb. 14, and has taken over Goode’s recruitment there. Even though Goode has had to develop a new bond there, he still has a good one with Head Coach Pat Narduzzi.
