South Florida isn’t just the home of Monsignor Pace (Fla.) athlete Blake Veargis. It’s where he’s spent his entire life to this point.
It’s safe to say, though, that the next step in Veargis’ career will take him a bit out of sunny south Florida. There have been 11 offers that have come in so far, including one yesterday from Virginia Tech.
Now, Veargis is plotting where he’ll visit first. Wake Forest, Boise State and North Dakota have also recently made offers, and he’s considered visits to NC State and UAB, among others.
“The one thing most important I look at is education,” Veargis said. “I look at facilities and other things, but it’s education first because my mom, that’s what she looks at. The second thing I look for is communication with coaches. I don’t wanna get an offer and not have communication. I wanna build a relationship with the coaches, so I can have that family-type of relationship. Then, I need to look at the offense and see if it fits my game.”
Veargis said he’s looking to see if the Hokies fit his criteria as well. But with the offer coming yesterday, he’s in the early stages.
“I haven’t really had a chance to look into it, but from what I hear and what my coaches are telling me, they have a nice program,” Veargis said. “They have a good spread offense, so I can get in the slot. They offered me as an athlete, so I can play wide receiver or free safety there. I’m looking forward to doing some big things with them.”
