Some visits are down and more are coming, but East Forsyth (NC) class of 2019 safety Khalid Martin is still getting the nuts and bolts of his recruitment down.

Martin is up to eight offers, the most recent one from Virginia Tech on Feb. 18. And while he’s not ready to reveal a top list, his most recent offer has him particularly excited.

“It’s amazing and I love it,” Martin said of the Hokies. “Just the campus, it’s very family-oriented and just the campus itself is beautiful. The coaches and the players are very close together. The coaches care about the players and the players care about the coaches. It’s a big family up there and I love it.”

Martin picked up his offer from Virginia Tech while on hand for the Hokies’ junior day. The visit allowed him to tour the campus and the facilities, and talk the coaches and players.

“It was like love at first sight,” Martin said. “I never really visited there, I just always heard about it. People told me if I visited, I’d fall in love and it was just a great experience. We toured the campus and it was just amazing, how the campus is laid out and everything is so beautiful.”

Assistant coach Charley Wiles has served as Virginia Tech’s primary recruiter. Their relationship has played a big role in Martin’s overall perception.

“He’s a real cool dude, a great coach,” Martin said. “He’s funny and he actually gets in tuned with the players that he’s recruiting, develops a relationship. Right now, our relationship, it’s good. I know he can’t talk to me much right now, but when I can contact ‘em, it’s real good.”

Aside from the Hokies, the only other program Martin has visited
