When Jerod Evans declared for the NFL Draft, Justin Fuente and Brad Cornselsen knew they needed quarterback depth, and someone who could compete with Josh Jackson for the starting quarterback position. Pickings were slim. There wasn’t anyone like Evans available this year, so they did the next best thing. They signed a high-ceiling player who was very raw. That player was AJ Bush.
Bush was once considered the heir apparent at Nebraska before former head coach Bo Pelini was fired. He became the odd man out and ended up playing JUCO ball at Iowa Western Community College. Before we get into his scouting report, first I want to show you his highlight tape.
That’s pretty impressive, isn’t? He’s a little more explosive than Jerod Evans (whereas Evans was a big, physical brute when he ran the football), he has the arm talent to make any throw on the field and you can actually see him progress to his second read a few times, which is something that Evans couldn’t even do at the JUCO level.
