Computer Numbers Through Seven Games

The Hokies are 6-1 thanks to their impressive come-from-behind victory at Michigan last Wednesday night.  I dug up some advanced stats for us to crunch in today’s article…

Offensive Efficiency: #28
Defensive Efficiency: #91
Effective Field Goal %: #19
FTA per Offensive Play: #140
Offensive Rebound %: #305
Defensive Rebound %: #52
Total Rebound %: #138
Turnovers per Possession: #25
Opp. Turnovers per Possession: #281
Opp. Effective Field Goal %: #99

*Effective Field Goal Percentage: This statistic adjusts for the fact that a 3-point field goal is worth one more point than a 2-point field goal. For example, suppose Player A goes 4 for 10 with two threes, while Player B goes 5 for 10 with zero threes. Each player would have 10 points from field goals, and thus would have the same effective field goal percentage (50%).

As we already knew, the Hokies have been a very efficient offensive team this year.  Their scoring numbers have gone down a bit as the competition has increased, but it’s obvious that this is a team that can put the ball in the basket.  You’d like to see them get to the free throw line more, but they rank #25
