1) Do you see Notre Dame joining the ACC in football in the next 5 years (possibly when the ACC network gets rolling)? Is getting left out of the CFP after going 12-0 or 11-1 the only reason ND would have to join a conference for football? Lastly, if ND did join the ACC, the ACC would have to add another member right? Who would you prefer to be added? – N2VTFTB

Chris Coleman: I don’t see that happening anytime soon.  Notre Dame has plenty of money, and their schedule is not going to keep them from playing for a National Championship.  In fact, I could make the argument that they’d have a better chance to play for the National Championship if they softened up their schedule a bit.  They play Michigan State, Texas and USC this season already.

The Irish fanbase and athletic department value their football independence.  It would take a lot, and I mean a lot, to get them to join a conference.  You can dangle more money in front of them, but that wouldn’t work.  To Notre Dame, it’s about much more than that.  Their feelings about being independent are very strong.  There would have to be massive changes to the landscape to change
