1) Given that you previously noted how far behind the curve VT was with 2017 recruits, what are you hearing about our progress with the class 2018, and in particular the top guys? Obviously not in terms of commits, but in terms of establishing relationships, getting them to camps, etc. – Upwind of uva

Chris Coleman: Great question. Let’s take a look at the very early top 10 in the state, per 247’s rankings. For what it’s worth, I don’t know anything about a few of these guys. It’s still very early.

1: LB Teradja Mitchell, Virginia Beach. Mitchell has visited Tech, and he likes the Hokies. He was in town in February, and I believe he visited again for the Spring Game. His head coach, Chris Scott, is a big fan of Justin Fuente. All that being said, he’s likely going to be a 5-star linebacker. Opposing teams will point out Tech’s lack of linebacker success between now and 2018. I think he really likes Tech, but the NFL factor will be hard to overcome.

2: RB Ricky Slade, Woodbridge. Slade has listed Virginia Tech as his leader, though he also likes Tennessee. He’s mentioned that he likes Tech’s new staff a lot better than the old one. (Don’t
