I was all set to write a defensive review on Spring Practice on Tuesday, but those plans were foiled by the indefinite suspensions of starting cornerback Adonis Alexander and backup defensive end Houshun Gaines.  Both players were going to have big roles for the Hokies this season.  If they aren’t back this year, Bud Foster and his staff will have some adjusting to do.

It’s important to note that the players have not been dismissed.  If they were kicked off the team, well…that’s exactly what the announcement would have said.  Instead, they are indefinitely suspended.  My guess is that Justin Fuente is waiting to see what happens with the legal process in the courts, as well as what the university decides after the legal issues are settled.  At best, I think they’ll be suspended for the first two games of the season.  That’s just a guess though.  None of us have seen how Fuente handles disciplinary issues before, so we really don’t know.
