Patrick Kearns is a good offensive line prospect who received eight other offers from Power 5 conference schools coming out of Darlington High School in Rome, GA. He originally committed to Stacy Searels back on July 25, and he never wavered from his decision after Virginia Tech’s coaching change.
There’s a lot to like about Kearns. He’s not quite a dominant player, but it’s obvious that as his frame fills out he has the potential to be very good. So much of offensive line recruiting is about projecting 2-4 years down the road, and that can be extremely difficult. However, it’s easy to see why the Tech staff is excited about Kearns. He projects well 2-4 years down the line.
It’s important to note that the film above is of Kearn’s junior season. There is no senior film available, but we have to assume improvement. I’m a big fan of his junior film, which makes me believe that the Hokies got a steal.
Frame: He’s already a big guy, but Kearns obviously has the frame to add even more weight and really fill out.
Explosiveness: Kearns gets off the line of scrimmage very quickly, despite the fact that his high school system requires linemen to play in 4-point snap. He gets into defensive linemen before they can even get...
